DEADMAN
Boston Brand was a world famous circus Trapeze artist called Deadman because he temped death every time he performed. One faithful night, Deadman was murdered during a performance. Even though his body died, his vengeful spirit did not. The Hindu Goddess, Rama Kushna gave his spirit the ability to possess any living creature to aid in his quest to find his killer and uncover why he was murdered.
When Boston/Deadman enters a host body, he becomes in complete control and the person’s spirit goes to sleep while Boston is in the driver’s seat so to speak. Along the way Boston uses his abilities to help people in need. Think of it as Quantum Leap meets the Equalizer.
Deadman could work as a feature film, but I think it would work best as a Netflix series. DC needs to answer Marvel’s darker television series like Daredevil and Jessica Jones and the supernatural themes of life, death and possession that Deadman can touch upon could be a perfect answer.
The setup of Deadman taking over bodies lends itself to casting some well know guest stars and the main role of Boston/Deadman would need a talented character actor / leading man, Idris Elba would be a good choice.
Life, death, adventure, lost love, ghosts and possession; what more could you ask for in a gritty, superhero television series?
You can keep the Aquaman movie. These are five amazing characters that deserve a shot at the silver screen, what are you waiting for DC/ Warner Bros?
