The Family / Faith Based Genre is based on fantasy elements. In a family film the stories are usually a slice of the ideal family environment. Loving parent figures, good well adjusted children in stable living arrangements. That is not to say a family film can’t have bad living conditions , bad parents and maladjusted children, but by the end of the story some sense of the ideal family life is usually obtained.
Many Family Films are coming of age stories that follow a young person through a challenging time in their life and through good moral decisions they triumph in the end. There is not usually heavy religious messages in a main stream family film.
In a Faith Based film, there are heavy religious over tones. Most American Faith Based films are based on Christian beliefs and stories. Characters from the bible are often the central focus of Faith Based films. Depending on what your religious beliefs are, will determine how much of a fantasy these bible based films may be.
Other Faith Based films portray some kind of miracle in the lives of good God fearing Christians. Christian children being cured of incurable disease or surviving some sort of disaster that no one else survived [even though many who were killed were also good Christians] or winning the sports championship because God was on one teams side and not the other team’s.
