A basic way to think of a screenplay is to picture it as a blueprint for a film. The writer must create a solid foundation for the story to unfold. This foundation is the context or Structure of your story and we will explore Structure in a later section. You, the writer must also fill this structure with interesting action and situations and we will call this our Plot. These interesting things must happen to intriguing and compelling people and we will refer to them as our Characters.

This Plot about compelling Characters told within the Structure of your story will be your Screenplay. Sounds easy doesn’t it? But it isn’t easy to write a screenplay.
